Tasmania joined the Sheffield Shield competition in 1977-78. Known as the Tigers, the island state's team has developed a strong record from its Bellerive Oval base in Hobart.

About the ground
Bellerive Oval opened in 1914 and became Tasmania's main cricket headquarters in the 1980s. The Hobart venue has hosted Test, one-day and Twenty20 internationals.
